Another year
extant....alive.
Another year
of fun and games.
Expectations.
Hopes and aims.
Telephoning....
just to see
who is who
and what's to be.
The ringing phone....
that cheery voice.
One thinks, if one
had any choice,
and ordered those
they liked, or not,
in a list....
who'd get top spot ??
A list of tele-
phonic friends.
A list of names
that starts and ends
with Emily....of course,
so clear,
and no-one else.
A sense of fear....
of retribution
close at hand
if we dared
to take a stand
and be a touch
provocative.
Not that she
would really give
us cause to suffer
too much pain.
With Emily
we always gain.
And hence she heads
this magic list....
and second place
we must resist.
It's simply not
the proper spot
for Emily,
I'll tell you what.
So Emily,
please do survive
to have a classic
Ninety-five.
